Project Overview

Each project PDSI undertakes requires a broad range of well-honed skills, from team building to a solid grasp of construction principles to resourceful problem solving. This was certainly the case when we led the update at Holiday Inn Secaucus. Multiple challenges required real ingenuity: the hotel’s location fronting a mixed-use plaza, land constraints, and the conflicting prerequisites of signage standards.

Re-programming the hotel lobby and adding a revenue generating retail space were two key goals. However, visitors to the plaza used the lobby to get to shops, restaurants, and Starbucks at the far end. PDSI devised a way to ensure pedestrian flow and access to the plaza, yet create minimal disruption to hotel operations and ongoing construction. At the same time, a new retail space capitalized on the pedestrian traffic, creating additional ROI for our client.

New Jersey has a long and complex geologic history, a fact that places strict demands on construction techniques. PDSI identified creative solutions that solved anticipated problems ensuring a sound foundation essential to improvements on floors above. Our team’s creativity was also called upon to resolve disparate signage requirements of the City, plaza ownership, and Holiday Inn brand standards.

Ultimately, the project offered another opportunity for PDSI to add value and prove our commitment to excellence. The client was very pleased with the results and IHG honored us with a Renovation of the Year Award.
